Spin for Alzheimer's

The Rotary Club of Maplewood, New Jersey, is hosting "Spin for Alzheimer's" a fundraising event in support of those affected by Alzheimer’s disease. This event is led by Rotary Member and Past President, Claudine Baptiste and is in partnership with BCB Bank.

From Claudine: I've decided to organize an annual event for individuals with Alzheimer's who are struggling financially, drawing from my personal experience of caring for my mother who battles Alzheimer's. I've witnessed firsthand the financial burden that comes with doctor's copays, medication costs, and the need for an aide, which can be overwhelming for families without the means to cover these expenses.

This event is an opportunity for us to come together and make a difference. I encourage everyone to dig deep into their pockets, participate, donate, and support my cause. Hosting this event serves as a therapeutic outlet for me, allowing me to channel my personal experiences into something positive.

If you know anyone who could benefit from the financial assistance this event will provide, please don't hesitate to reach out to me. I'm thrilled to announce that BCB Bank and Maplewood Rotary have joined   in this noble cause, but we still need your help. Please mark your calendars for November 4th and join us for a day of fun and wellness, all while giving back to those in need. Deadline to RSVP by October 21st, 2023.”

Affair of the Heart dinner dance POSTPONED

The members of the Maplewood Rotary Club sincerely hope that you and your families and friends are well and that you are adjusting as much as possible to the impact of these unfamiliar and stressful times.

With the increasing concern of the Coronavirus, we have no choice but to be as cautious and safe as possible.  We regretfully announce that our club’s annual Affair of the Heart dinner dance, scheduled for Thursday, April 30th, at the Maplewood Country Club has been postponed. The health and safety of the Country Club employees, our members, and communities is our top priority.

We wish to thank everyone for your generous support of our club’s mission of Service above Self, and we will be rescheduling the event in the near future. We apologize for any inconvenience.

Sockober: We "rocked our socks off"!

The Maplewood Rotary Club hosted a wonderful evening at Isaiah House in East Orange on Tuesday, October 29, 2019. The evening brought together members of Maplewood Rotary Club and guests at Isaiah House for this special event, which will hopefully become an annual event.

We "rocked our socks off" by handing out socks, pajamas to the children and gift cards to the teenagers. Then we shared pizza, refreshments, snacks with residents at the Isaiah House. Thank you to everyone that donated socks at all the different drop off locations! We literally had a mountain of socks, over 2000 pairs collected during our "SOCKOBER DRIVE", including a great haul from Rotary member Ed Boffa, who motivated his Union High School Interact Club to collect 633 pairs! A special thanks to Ed and his students.

It was a great night of "Service Above Self", and wonderful meeting the families that were so grateful for this small gesture of kindness from our communities.

Maplewood Rotary Club has been active for almost 90 years. Our mission of "Service above self" has made us strive to give back to the community in many projects. Our newest project is "Socktober". We hope to gather sock donations from the Maplewood and South Orange communities and then distribute the socks to homeless shelters. One of these is Isaiah House in Orange, where we will be collaborating this fall in 2 ways. The first is Painting a Guest Room in September and the other will be a Spaghetti Dinner for the guests in November. We will prepare and serve a dinner as well as distribute PJs, books and socks to the guests.

End of the Year BBQ & Installation of Officers

Posted by C. Baptiste on Jun 26, 2019
MAPLEWOOD, NJ - Monday evening, June 24 was a time for celebration with the annual Maplewood Rotary Club end of year barbeque at the home of Steve Gussen and Stacy Hirschberg. Attended by almost all the members of the chapter and their spouses and/or friends, there was a true feeling of warmth and fellowship. Impossible to notmention that abundance of food and beverage for the celebration.
The first notable ceremony of the evening was the presentation by Rick Porter of the Paul Harris Fellow award to Mayor Vic DeLuca. The award, name in honor of Paul Harris who in 1905 founded the Rotary Club, is presented to a person who exemplifies all the qualities and goodness that The Rotary stands for. DeLuca has earned it with his support, and participation in major events over the years as Mayor of Maplewood.
During the course of the evening, not only was the year end celebrated, but two new members, Sharon Simmons and James Goodger, were administered the pledge of membership. The ceremonies continued with a presentation of a plaque and special Past President’s Pin to Rick Porter by President Elect Claudine Baptiste.
The final ceremony was the administration of the oath of office for the incoming officers by David Beni, with Claudine Baptiste stepping into the role of Chapter President for the coming year. Claudine told TAPinto SOMA that she hopes to focus more of the charitable support locally that has been done in the past.
