Beginning with nearly 550 trees, the Maplewood Rotary Club’s 2016 Christmas Tree Sale has been receiving a strong turnout by local residents since the Saturday after Thanksgiving. This past weekend we have sold close to 200 trees plus wreathes and other Christmas goodies.  All profits go to local charitable causes.  The Rotary Club would like to thank all the hard working Rotarian's, their family members who helped, Maplewood Boy Scout Troop 5 and Seton Halls fraternity Alpha Chi Rho. (The Scouts and Alpha Chi Rho also assisted Maplewood Rotary with their annual spaghetti dinner held last month at St. Joe's Church in Nov 12, 2016). Also very helpful were members of the Local Landscaper community who show their commitment to our local community, where many work and or live. Shown below in bottom picture.

In October, Maplewood and South Orange Rotarians completed their annual 3rd Grade Dictionary Project by giving a dictionary to every 3rd grader, nearly 600 students combined, in Maplewood and South Orange.  Third-graders are selected to receive the books because their reading and writing skills typically improve and they begin learning how use reference materials at this level.  See the Patch Story here:  http://maplewood.patch.com/blog_posts/1-in-7-us-adults-are-illiterate-what-are-rotarians-doing-to-help

The Maplewood Rotary Club’s weekly meeting turned magical when special guest Maggie Doyne shared her story.  There wasn’t a dry eye in the room and all in attendance were inspired by her accomplishments.  Members of the Madison and South Orange Rotary Clubs also attended.  The Maplewood and Madison clubs joined forces to help with a new Well for Maggie's High School being built in 2013.  Full Story here:  http://maplewood.patch.com/blog_posts/not-a-dry-eye-at-the-maplewood-rotarty-club-with-special-guest-maggie-doyne Image
